About Erfurt Cathedral

Erfurt Cathedral (Dom St. Marien) is a magnificent Gothic masterpiece and the largest church in Thuringia, dating from the 14th-15th centuries. Built on a dramatic hillside overlooking Domplatz, it houses the world largest surviving medieval bell, the Maria Gloriosa (1497), weighing 11 tons. The cathedral features stunning Gothic choir windows, extensive 14th-century choir stalls, and was the site where Martin Luther was ordained as a priest in 1507.
