About this Destination
Feldberg Mountain is the highest peak in the Black Forest and Baden-Wurttemberg at 1,493 meters above sea level, making it the tallest mountain in Germany outside of the Alps and Bavaria. Located in the High Black Forest near the Swiss border, this magnificent mountain offers spectacular year-round outdoor recreation and stunning panoramic views. During winter, Feldberg transforms into Germany largest ski resort outside the Alps, featuring over 70 kilometers of pistes with runs of all difficulty levels. The resort boasts 14 ski lifts including five chairlifts, seven T-bar lifts, and three ski conveyors, serving 16 slopes from easy family runs to challenging FIS World Cup courses. Skiing has deep historical roots here, with the first ski lift built in 1907 and the first ski jump patent invented in the nearby area in 1906-07. Summer activities are equally impressive, with the popular 12-kilometer Feldberg Steig hiking trail circling the summit and the romantic Feldsee lake. The mountain features multiple hiking trails ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours, offering magnificent views in every direction. A cable car provides easy access from the House of Nature parking area to the Seebuck subpeak at 1,448 meters. The Feldberg area holds special conservation status as Baden-Wurttemberg oldest and largest nature reserve, protecting its unique subalpine vegetation. The mountain serves as the heart of the Southern Black Forest Nature Park, attracting hikers, mountain bikers, nature lovers, families, and wellness enthusiasts throughout the year.
